

Jimmy Dale Hurst, 78, of Midland, Texas, passed away on July 26, 2026. He was born on September 12, 1947, in Groesbeck, Texas, and grew up most of his life in Midland, Texas, where he graduated from Lee High School in 1966. He married his wife Pam in April 1972 and remained married until her passing in March of 2003.
Shortly after graduation, at the age of 19, Jimmy was drafted into the United States Army. He went on to serve his country with distinguished honor for 11 years, including two tours of duty in Vietnam. During his second tour, stationed in Germany, he served as a Military Policeman. Jimmy was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in combat, along with two Good Conduct Medals, the National Defense Service Medal, the Vietnam Service Award, and honors for Sharpshooter and Expert Marksman, among other awards and merits earned throughout his military career. He was honorably discharged after more than a decade of faithful service to his country.
Following his time in the Army, Jimmy built a career with the United States Postal Service, where he worked for over 20 years.
Jimmy was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Pamela Askew Hurst; his mother, Mary Helen Hurst; and his father, L.C. Hurst and brother in law Bobby Owens.
He is survived by his sisters, twin sister Linda Dianne Owens and younger sister Jo Elaine Wheeler and her husband Carlton Wheeler; his nieces and nephews, Carol Stringer, Michael Hughes, Christy Whitaker, and Kristen Green; and four great-nephews.
Jimmy's life was one of service — to his country. He will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him.
