John “Johnny” Andrew Rowbotham of Midland passed away on December 15, 2013. Johnny was born to Ira Blaine and Valarie Thompson Rowbotham on August 16, 1922 in Burlington, Colorado. He graduated from Alva High School in Alva, Oklahoma.
After graduating from high school he joined the National Guard. Johnny then went into the regular Army to serve his country during World War II. He served in the 45th Division of the United States Army having three amphibian landings in North Africa, Sicily and Anzio.
In 1945 Johnny was employed by Gulf Oil Corporation working on a Seismograph Crews. In 1954 he was transferred to Fort Worth, Texas working in the budget department. In 1959 was transferred to Midland Division as a Senior Accountant Analysis. Later retiring in 1983 from Chevron.
Family was very important to Johnny and he was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a very devoted man to his Christ Church of Midland family.
Johnny was a long time member of the Acacia Masonic Lodge 1414, serving 67 years. He was a 32 degree Mason and also a member to Suez Shrines. He was a member of the Earl S. Bailey American Legion Post 0430 for 21 years and a longtime member of the VFW post in Odessa.
In the 70’s Johnny served the City of Midland on one of the Commission Boards.
Johnny was preceded in death by his parents; his first wife, Doris Watts Rowbotham; his second wife, Nancy Beverly Rowbotham; his two brothers; his sister and three nieces and many aunts and uncles.
Johnny is survived by his daughter, Gloria Newman and husband Jerry of Midland; his son, Frank Rowbotham and wife Ginger of Edmond, OK; and his three step-children: Patty Merrifield and husband Tim, John Beverly and wife Beth, and Brian Beverly and wife Cindy. He also leaves behind fourteen grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren and one great-great granddaughter.
The family wishes to express its heartfelt gratitude to the caregivers and staff at Senior Care, Terrace West and Hospice of Midland for the outstanding care given to Johnny in the past few months.
