Wanda Kimbrell Trice, 84, of Midland passed away on Saturday, January 5, 2013. Wanda, who was known to her friends as Joni, was born on December 7, 1928, in Glenwood, MO. She was her high school’s valedictorian and went on to achieve her BA degree at Truman College in Missouri, and completed graduate work in journalism at Iowa State University. After college graduation, she was a journalist for the Lovington Leader newspaper in New Mexico. Joni was also a high school teacher for ten years, she inspired in many students a love for poetry. She served as the director for the Texas Commission on Alcoholism in El Paso, TX. In Midland, TX she enjoyed her work at Barnes & Noble for twenty years helping people find just the right book. Her hobbies included: avid reader, enjoyed cooking, baking, gardening, and international travel.
She is survived by her husband of 58 years, James F. Trice of Midland, TX; daughter, Laura McCullar and her husband Eddie McCullar of Nashville, TN; grandson, Trice McCullar of Nashville, TN; daughter, Jane Trice of Nashville, TN and sister Elsie Williams of Ames, IA.
A memorial service has been scheduled at 10:00am Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at Ellis Funeral Home Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to a charity of your choice. Online condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com.
