Larry was born in Odessa, Texas on January 4, 1958 to Benjamin and Ella Faye (Edson) Hendrix. He graduated from Midland High School in 1976. After school he went straight to work at Dairy Queen and later at Bob’s Better Burger to provide for his first born, Kimberly Lynn Hendrix. On May 12, 1979, Larry married Donna Lynne Coles; they were married for 37 years.
For 16 years, Larry worked for his father, Ben Hendrix, at Tall City Ice Co., later known as Basin Pure Ice. The many stories Larry shared of the “Ice House” were ones of love, family and fun. Larry’s years here were fundamental in shaping the man he became. Following his time at the Ice House, Larry landed a job at Parker & Parsley, Inc. (Pioneer Natural Resources) in September of 1990. Larry’s employment with Pioneer continued until Friday, October 27, 2017.
Larry enjoyed hunting, fishing, attending sporting events, music concerts and playing Texas Hold’em. He not only loved to listen to music, but was skilled in playing both the guitar and harmonica. Larry spent many seasons as Little League coach to his sons, Larry Jacob and John Wesley. He always found time to throw the ball in the front yard.
Larry is preceded in death by his father Benjamin Hendrix; mother Ella Faye (Edson) Hendrix; sister Sheila Hendrix; brother Benjamin Jacob; cousin Dale LaCroix; numerous aunts and uncles, and lifetime friend Danny White.
Larry is survived by Donna Hendrix of Midland; son Larry “Jake” Hendrix and wife, Kimberlee Hendrix of Midland; son John Wesley Hendrix and wife, Mandy Hendrix of Midland; daughter Kimberly Hendrix Barnett and husband, John Barnett of Hot Springs, Arkansas; daughter Jacqueline Ann Hendrix and fiancé, Marcus White of Midland; daughter Anyla Wade of Midland; brother Billy Hendrix and wife, Yvonne Hendrix of Paris; sister Gwen Hughes of Andalusia, Alabama; ten grandchildren; one great-grandchild, many nephews, nieces, cousins and countless friends.
Larry was an iceman turned oilman with an unparalleled work ethic and unbreakable relationship with Jesus Christ, his Lord and Savior. He is already greatly missed.
