Laveta Fern (Fox) Harris, age 90, of Midland, Texas passed away on Sunday, July 31, 2022. Laveta Fern (Fox) Harris was born October 12, 1931 to Eunice Fern (Hammond) and Arnold Fox in Pangburn, Arkansas. Her grandparents were Nannie Elizabeth and William J. Hammond of Roosevelt and Bradford, Arkansas and Salitha Jane and John Melvin Fox of Pangburn, Arkansas. She grew up in North Little Rock, Arkansas and had wonderful memories growing up there. She graduated from North Little Rock High School in 1949 with people that were her lifelong friends. She graduated from the University of Central Arkansas in 1953. She loved her time and friends from UCA, where she met the love of her life Edward Maxwell “Max” Harris. They were married June 7, 1953. Fern and Max spent several years in North Little Rock and had two beautiful daughters, Vicki Lynn and Travis Anne. Max worked with the Travelers Insurance Company and they were transferred to Lubbock, Texas in 1958. Fern and Max loved their time in Lubbock, and in only 3 years made many lifelong friends. The “Lubbock Gang” had many reunions over the years, which Fern truly cherished. In 1961, Fern, Max, and their daughters moved to Midland, Texas where they would spend the rest of their lives, though not knowing that at the time. But as it often does, Midland became “home”. Max started his own insurance agency, where he would spend the next 25 years. Fern and Max quickly became members of St. Marks United Methodist Church. Fern and Max raised their daughters in Midland who both later graduated from Midland High School. Fern played in bridge club for many years and enjoyed many other civic activities. Fern and Max loved traveling, going to Europe and many other wonderful destinations. Fern especially loved their vacation home in Ruidoso, New Mexico where she loved the arts and entertainment of the area. Among her favorite activities locally, she was a tap dancer with the “Groovy Grannies”. Her love for dancing was shared by her daughters, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Fern loved traveling, dancing, and most of all her grandchildren. She adored her grandchildren and made sure they were as spoiled as she could make them. Fern was preceded in death by both of her parents, and her husband of 57 years, Max Harris. She is survived by her daughters Vicki Lynn Harris, and Travis Anne Michael (Terry). Five grandchildren, Ryan Roberts (Ashley), Robyn Luxton (Justin), Matthew Michael (Lexi), Tobi Kibbe (Avery), and Caitlin Sell (Spencer), and 14 great grandchildren.
