

Leona L. Meissner Foster was born on March 30, 1928, when Midland had 3,000 residents. She was born to Gustav and Alma Meissner and grew up on a farm with her parents, three sisters and three brothers. She was baptized at, confirmed at, and attended Grace Lutheran Church, Midland Lutheran Church, and Our Savior’s Lutheran Church.
Leona attended Prairie Lee School as a young child. Leona started working at the Midland County Library in 1944, which later inspired a love of reading in all her children. She graduated from Midland High School in 1945, and graduated from McMurry College in 1949 with a BA in English. Leona then received a BS in Library Science from LSU in 1950. She was an Army Special Services Librarian and was in Japan from September 1950 to November 1952.
Leona was an avid photographer, and especially loved butterflies. She made dresses for herself and her daughters for every Easter and first day of school. She attended many of the Prairie Lee School reunions. She also loved her garden.
Leona was preceded to heaven by her father Gustav, mother Alma, brother Martin Meissner, and ex-husband Lynn; and is survived by her three sisters Marie Hanna, Lillie Lippe, and Ada Hill; two brothers Melvin Meissner and Fred Meissner; and five children Sherry Shanks, Norma Foster, Lois LaBerge, Bill Foster, and Lynn Foster, Jr.
A visitation will be held from 6:00p.m. to 8:00p.m. on Friday, December 12, 2014 at Ellis Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 3:00p.m. on Saturday, December 13, 2014 atEllis Funeral Home Chapel, 801 Andrews Hwy. Midland, Texas. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memorial Park.
