

Mr. Leslie R. Hinds was born on October 19, 1920 in Forgan, Oklahoma. He passed away on March 30, 2011. His early childhood was spent at Friona, Texas where he graduated from high school. He received his B.S. degree in Chemistry from West Texas State University, his master degree from the University of Colorado in Boulder and did post graduate work at the University of Texas in Austin. Mr. Hinds served with the 8th Air Force in England during World War II. When he returned he moved to Midland and worked for the Western Company followed by a 34 years career in the Midland School District. He served as principle of two elementary schools before opening Alamo Junior High and Lee High School. This was followed by 22 years as Director of Personal in the administrative office of MISD. He was a member of Golf Course Road Church of Christ, a charter member and past president of the Midland Retired Teachers. He also served on the boards of the Midland-Odessa Symphony and Chorale, Big Brother and Big Sister and served 15 years as a Volunteer at Midland Memorial Hospital. He was a Rotarian for 50 years and was a Past President of the Midland West Rotary Club. He was preceded in death by his parents, A.B. and Lena Hinds and a sister, Helen Burgess. He is survived by his wife, Hilda, of 88 years, three sons, Ronald D. and wife Jeanne of Coppell, David L. and Wife Jan of Amarillo, and Kevin L. of Richardson. He also leaves behind eight grandchildren and seven great grandchildren, three brothers; Dean of Denver, CO, Dr. B. Wayne and wife Yvonne of Lubbock and Bob and wife Vicki of San Angelo.
