Lois Jean Sellars of Midland passed away and went to be with her Lord on Saturday, June 29, 2013 at her home with the services of Home Hospice at the age of 85, from a long battle of Alzheimer's with other health issues.
Lois was born in Hobart, OK on December 12, 1927 to Arlie and Nannie Belle Romines, both deceased. They moved to Texas in the early 1930's and settled in O'Donnell and later in Plainview. Lois was one of eleven children. Lois and William Earl "Jack" Sellars were married in Tahoka on October 16, 1943 and he preceded her in death on February 12, 1991. They had five children whom they were dedicated to: Doris Jean Sellars of Midland, Retta Moody and husband Dale R. Moody of OK, Billy Jack Sellars and wife Jan Sellars of Midland, Mack Sellars and wife Cheryl of Midland and YoYo Ketter and husband Bob Ketter of Midland. Lois was a homemaker, seamstress, gardener, plus working outside the home at Bonham Elementary, in the Meat Department of Bowen's Grocery and M System, Dunlap's and Grammer Murphy--and still found time to attend her children’s/grandchildrens school/sport activities, rodeoing and making special unique shirts for her rodeo girls. She had an incredible talent as a quilter and was a member of the Valley View Quilter's Guild and became a member in 1981 of the Midland Quilter's Guild, formed in 1979. She has won numerous awards at competitions with her works of art. She was honored as the "Featured Quilter of the Year of 2005" by the Midland Quilter's Guild. She made very special quilts for each of her children and grandchildren.
Her church affiliation as a child was Church of Christ, followed by her early married life as Apostolic Faith and in the latter years was a member of "The Love Class" of Wilshire Park Baptist Church. When she became unable to attend church, she faithfully watched Second Baptist Church of Odessa on television and had a quiet time each afternoon to read her Bible.
She is survived by her five children and eleven grandchildren and twenty-two great grandchildren and four sisters, Louella Meadow of WA, Thelma Raindl of Tahoka, Peggy Spaugh of Lubbock and Judi Moore of CA and numerous nieces and nephews.
I
n latter months of her life, Lois was privileged to have Delores Solley as her dedicated day time care giver. The love and laughter they shared for and with each other was special and her family will forever be indebted to Delores for her excellent, loving care. Wilshire Park's WOM recently presented her with a beautiful lavender/dark green "Prayer" lap quilt, which covered her with their prayers for her daily naps.
Pall bearers are either her grandchildren or great grandchildren or their spouses: Jeremy Deramus, Jeremy Jones, Kody and Taylor Keesler, J. R. Ketter, Josh Sanders, Clay Sellars and Kate Sellars.
Staff at MMH ER, 6th Floor and Home Hospice have provided much comfort to Lois during her last days. Special thanks go to each of her doctors who have faithfully treated her these many years--Dr. Brown, Dr. Dimri, Dr. McKenna, Dr. Miller, Dr. Reese, Dr. Viney, WT Orthopedic and Dr. MClarey of Home Hospice.
Family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Ellis Funeral Home between the hours of 6:00pm and 8:00pm.
