Lowell was born in Snyder, Texas on December 10, 1929 to Lowell D. Wade, Sr. and Hattie Moffett Wade. He spent his youth in Scurry county trapping & fishing, playing high school football, and going on the wheat harvest. He lived his life as an educator having received a Bachelor of Science degree in Education from Southwest Texas State University and a Masters in Education from Sul Ross State College. Lowell was a career mathematics teacher in the Midland Public School System beginning at Austin Jr. High and went on to become an indelible fixture at Robert E. Lee High School. But Lowell was an educator in life. You didn’t come into contact with him without learning something you didn’t previously know whether you wanted to or not.
Lowell was a US Veteran serving in the Army 1950-1952 during the Korean War.
Lowell became the luckiest man alive the day he married his better half, Virginia Tankersley Wade, on March 21, 1961. Virginia was by Lowell’s side from traveling the highways of this great land taking in the beauty of numerous National Parks to bass fishing on the waters of Texas lakes for 45 years. He was an avid outdoorsman and fisherman, a lifetime member of the High Sky Bass Club of Midland. He enjoyed deer and bird hunting in the brush of West Texas and big game hunting in Colorado and was a vintage fishing lure collector.
Lowell was a faithful man and member of Crestview Baptist Church in Midland. He was also a dedicated and thoughtful father passing on the value of a hard day’s work, emboldening future generations to “make ‘em a hand”.
Lowell is survived by his son, Dan Walbridge & wife Linda of Greensboro, NC, daughter Peggy Goure & husband Ray of Lakewood, CO, and grandchildren Lauren Walbridge, Tara Negron & husband Nick, and Connor Lowell Goure. Lowell is laid to rest beside his bride at Resthaven Memorial Cemetery in Midland.
In lieu of flowers, Lowell’s family wishes you would consider a donation to the Permian Basin Honor Flight or an Honor Flight branch in your area.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ellisfunerals.com for the Wade family.
