Mary Frances “Barnie” Snure was welcomed by her husband to Heaven on Tuesday, September 28, 2010. Barnie was born in Plainview, Texas on December 1, 1925 to Allen G. and Flora Meadows Barnard. Barnie was raised in Lamesa, Texas where she graduated from Lamesa High School. She then graduated from Texas Tech University, in Lubbock, where she was a cheerleader and the Sun Bowl Princess. She went on to teach P.E. and coach the Midland High School girl’s tennis team. On June 25, 1947 Barnie wedded the love of her life, Charles L. Snure, at a ceremony in Lamesa. Charles preceded Barnie in death on June 16, 1996. It is an understatement to say that Barnie was a friendly woman. Outgoing does not do her justice either. Barnie was known as the “Howdy Queen”, as she would strike up a conversation with anyone. There were no strangers to Barnie. She may have been a little lady, but her heart was bigger than all of us combined. She always had a smile on her face and a tremendous source of support for her family and friends. Barnie was a devout member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She was a magnet for love, and her firm belief in Christ resonated in everything she did. At one time she was president of Episcopal Church Women. Barnie was also a lifetime member of the PTA, the Junior League of Midland and the Kappa Kappa Gamma Sorority. When she was able, Barnie would often be found on the links at Green Tree Country Club where she once served as president of the Green Tree Ladies Golf Association. In addition to her legacy, Barnie is survived by her family: daughter, Gayle Snure Ingle and her husband Rusty of McKinney, TX; son, Chuck Snure of Centennial, CO; four grandchildren, Laura Hebert and husband Russell of Prairieville, LA; Andy Ingle of McKinney, TX; Erin Hehn and husband Jason of Littleton, CO; Lauren Snure of Centennial, CO. Niece, Suzan Barnard Crouch and nephews Allen Barnard and Brian Barnard. She was also the proud great-grandmother of Cade Hebert of Prairieville and Kylie Frances Hehn of Littleton. The family thanks physician Dr. Michael Miller for his years of dedicated service. We are also eternally grateful for the tireless support and effort of Barnie’s caregivers, Josie Villarreal and Diana Esparza. Graveside services have been scheduled for 12:00 P.M. Friday at Resthaven Memorial Park, followed by a Memorial service at 1:00 P.M. at the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home. Condolences may be offered at www.ellisfunerals.com. Memorials may be directed to the Episcopal Church of the Holy Trinity 1412 W. Illinois Midland, TX 79701 or Hospice Rays of Hope P.O. Box 2621 Midland, TX 79702.
