Melba Nadine (Dene) Adams, of Midland, passed away Wednesday, January 12, 2011. Dene was born August 30, 1922. She was raised and educated in Scranton, Texas. She married W.D. (Slats) Adams on July 26, 1941 in Cisco, Texas. They have resided in Midland since the early 1940’s and have been members of Bellview Baptist Church since 1951. Dene loved to laugh and has loved basketball since her high school days when she was a forward for her high school team. She worked in retail sales until she retired at age 83. Dene felt her real ministry was achieved when she was able to provide comfort through food to friends, co-workers, and family. Most of all, Dene cherished her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were the lights of her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Noel and Ollie Thompson; brothers, Lee Thompson, Alton Thompson, Lawrence Thompson, and Doyle Thompson; sister, Carolyn Thompson. She is survived by her husband, W. D. (Slats) Adams; daughters, Jo Ann Ray of Weatherford, TX; Beverly Martin and husband Jerry of Austin, TX; son, Ronnie Adams and wife Terry of Midland; grandchildren, Kristi Hopkins; Brian Ray and wife Julie; Jeff Martin and wife Rachel; Lee Anne McLeod and husband Todd; Ronnie Adams Jr. and wife Jessica; Sarah Gignac and husband Jason; great-grandchildren, Haley; Kolen, Jordan and Reagan; Isabel and Zara; Ian and Meredith; Preslee; Jaron and Jalynn; brother, Bill Thompson and wife Jackie; sisters-in-law, Lora Thompson and Mona Thompson. Also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews, and longtime friend and caregiver, Linda Cote. Our family would like to thank the staff of Senior Care Center for the love and compassion shown to our mother and the care they continue to provide to our dad.
