Nita Heikkila

Vera Juanita Johnson Heikkila, Beloved Mother, Mother-in-Law, Grandmother and Great Grandmother passed away at the age of 97 Wednesday, February 17, 2010, in San Antonio, Texas. She was born June 23, 1912 in Hassee, TX to Bertha and Roy Johnson. The Family moved to Midland the following year. Nita, as she was called, attended Midland schools and graduated with the Class of 1930. Married Edwin C Heikkila, a military officer in the Bombardier School in Midland, in 1940 and were married for 53 years. They traveled widely abroad and lived overseas after WWII finally returning to live in Midland, TX. Nita worked for Exxon Corporation and retired in 1976. She and Ed traveled widely after retiring. Nita is preceded in death by her parents, Bertha and Roy Johnson, her sisters, Dorotha Coolidge and Ama Belle Hammond, her brother Kenneth Johnson, her husband Edwin Carl Heikkila, her son Joe Nolan Dorsey, and her daughter-in-law Virginia Dorsey. Nita is survived by her son and daughter-in-law Edwin Carl Heikkila, Jr. and Ruth Heikkila, her grandsons and wives Christopher O. Heikkila and Pam, Craig A. Heikkila, Webb Dorsey and Debbie, Allen Dorsey and Nancy, her only Granddaughter and husband Carrie Ellen Heikkila Adamian and Daniel. She has 11 great-grandchildren and 4 great great-grandchildren. Nita often said that although she had lived, worked and traveled in many States and Foreign Countries, she left her heart in Midland and in Midland she will be laid to rest alongside her beloved husband, Ed, who passed away in 1993. Graveside services have been scheduled for 10:00 A.M., Saturday, February 20, 2010 at Resthaven Memorial Park. Arrangements are under the direction of Ellis Funeral Home.
