Norman James Young

Norman James Young was born to Sterling Young and Charity Hoyle Young Lawrence in Midland, Texas. He was the eighth child of ten born to this union. Norman’s grandmother, Mrs. Manervia Hoyle was instrumental in his child-rearing. He attended elementary through high school in Midland and still has a few standing track records from his freshman year in high school. Norman loved working in the yard and gained a lot of experience under the mentorship of Mr. Travis Stockton. He also worked for many years in food service at Green’s Restaurant, Denny’s and Gatti’s. Growing up, Norman was full of adventure and always enjoyed working on projects around the house. He never met a stranger, enjoyed meeting new people in the community, and had a joyful spirit; he was a gentle giant and was known by the nickname of “Gush” by close family and friends.

Norman was preceded in death by his parents, his grandparents, brothers Chester Young and George Wayne Bedford.

Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. To cherish his memory, he leaves three sisters: Deborah Young, Midland, TX; Juliette Young, Denver, CO; and Gloria Denise Young, Little Rock, AR. Five brothers: Sterling Young Jr., Lester Young (Laura), Blaisdell Young, and Ervin Young, all of Midland, TX; Terry Young (Donna), Rowlett, TX. An uncle, James “Smokey” Young, Houston, TX; an aunt, Ophelia Hurd, Midland, TX. Extended family: Badger family, Midland, TX. Dear friends: Bernard Jameson, Toddrey Loudd, Randy Prince, Marcus Roberts, Victor Tryon, and Robert Johnson. A host of family and other friends.

A memorial service for Norman will be held Thursday, June 23, 2022 at 1:00 PM at Ellis Resthaven Funeral Home, 4616 N Big Spring Street, Midland, Texas 79705.
