Opal Porter Smith

Opal Smith, 95, of Midland, passed away at her residence on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. She was born on October 31, 1916 to John M. Porter and Lois (McClinton) Porter in Paris, TX. She was one of 10 children, with five brothers and four sisters. Opal was very fond of the outdoors and loved to spend time with her family. She was a very loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.

Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her loving husband, Owen B. Smith, her three sons, Bill Smith, Owen B. Smith, Jr., and Clinton R. Smith, her four brothers, Walter, Henry, Cecil, and Victor, and her three sisters, Jewell, Marie, and Naomi.

She is survived by her three daughters, Lois Mitchell, Wanda M. Smith and Barbara A. Smith, all of Midland, TX; her brother, Otis Porter and wife, Ruth of Salem, OR; and her sister, Betty Dillard of Gresham, OR. Also left to cherish her memory are four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Friends may pay their respects to Opal from 11:00a.m. to 7:00p.m., Friday, August 24, 2012 at Ellis Funeral Home. A graveside service is planned for 1:30p.m., Saturday, August 25, 2012 at Resthaven Memorial Park with Brother Bob Porterfield officiating.
