Reta was born on February 4, 1936, in Brownfield, Texas, to O.R. Moore and Irene Moore. She grew up on a farm, where she developed a lifelong love of working outdoors and caring for the land.
She graduated from Cooper High School in Lubbock and built a long and dedicated career in banking. Reta worked for American State Bank, Lubbock National Bank, and later Plains Capital Bank, where she served as a bookkeeper until her retirement.
A woman of strong faith, Reta was a longtime member of Cooper Methodist Church. She loved her family and treasured the many friendships she cultivated throughout her life. Among her closest friends were Peggy Malone, Latrice Murphree, Barbara McCree, and the late Bernice Bryan. Reta was known for her outgoing personality, quick wit, and genuine love for people.
She especially enjoyed fishing and gardening. Her garden was often filled with tomatoes, peppers, okra, and squash, and she found great joy in working outdoors and sharing the fruits of her labor with others.
Reta is survived by her brother, Leroy Motley; sisters, Essie Hoggard, Sandra Moore, and Betty Noland; nieces, Glenda Pedigo, Vicki Campbell, and Patti Harper; and nephews, Quintin Merrill and Monty Merrill.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Irene Moore and O.R. Moore; her stepmother, Edna Motley Moore; her brother, Robert Motley; and her sister, Wanda Bruce.
Reta will be remembered for her faith, kindness, humor, and the love she shared with family and friends throughout her life.
