In 1963, while stationed at Goodfellow Air Force Base in San Angelo, Roger met the love of his life, Cindy Ratican, at a dance that would change both their lives forever. The two married on February 14, 1964 at 3 a.m. after Roger received orders to deploy to Germany that very day. Their love story was one built on laughter, devotion, and faith, lasting through every season of life until her passing in 1988.
Roger proudly served his country in the U.S. Air Force before beginning his long career with Texas Tank Car Works in 1967. His strong work ethic, loyalty, and quiet determination defined his many years there until his retirement in 2009.
Outside of work, Roger enjoyed the open road on his motorcycle, watching his grandkids play sports, loved caring for his beloved horse Pretty and spending time at church. His faith was steady and sure, guiding how he lived and loved each day.
He is reunited in Heaven with his beloved wife, Cindy; his great-granddaughter, Parker Winscher; and his parents, Englebert and Dorothy Heuertz.
Roger is survived by his daughter Stacie Lea Bland and husband Mark of Midland, son, Roger Lee Heuertz of San Angelo, Texas, daughter-in-law Ann Heuertz of San Angelo; grandchildren, Mara Bland, Sean Winscher and wife Courtney, Rashunda Edibiri and husband Bond, Amber Bland, Chelsey Bland, Caleb Heuertz, and Noah Bland; and eleven great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by his siblings: Robert Heuertz and wife Bonnie, Rich Heuertz and Sharon Ramsey, Carol Christensen and husband Dave, Ken Heuertz and wife Melinda, and Linda Heuertz and husband Ken; along with several nieces and nephews who loved him dearly.
Roger’s life was a reflection of quiet strength, steady faith, and endless love for his family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A private service for the family will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Midland Soup Kitchen or any charity that holds special meaning to you.
