Tychicus Lon Roberson, lovingly known as “Ty,” passed away on July 5, 2025, in Midland, Texas. He was a devoted father, grandfather, brother, and friend, whose unwavering love for his family and deep faith guided him every day. Ty was born on November 9, 1961, and graduated from Midland High School in 1980. He later attended Midland College and UTPB. He proudly owned and operated two businesses earlier in life: Apex 2000 Internet Services Corporation and Basin Laser. Ty also dedicated over 15 years of service to J-Hobbs Machine Corporation as a Quality Control Supervisor.
Ty married the love of his life, Tammy Sue Mansell, in Midland, TX on March 6, 1981. Together they raised a close-knit family rooted in love, laughter, and tradition. Ty made a point to pray every morning for each member of his family. Every Christmas, he led the beloved tradition of a Jesus birthday party—always singing “Silent Night” with heart and joy. Ty had a great sense of humor and a heart full of love. Sundays were his favorite—he loved cooking alongside his family, especially with his grandson Kade by his side and Christy always helping to organize and plan the day. He treasured watching football with his late son, Avery, and never missed a chance to catch UFC or Muay Thai fights with his grandson Kason. He enjoyed supervising Becca on the many projects he had in mind—always ready to share his wisdom. A proud and vocal Trump supporter, Ty also loved lively political conversations with his son, Ty 2. Most of all, he cherished every moment spent with his beloved granddaughter, Lillie. He enjoyed playing poker and trivia. He often had loving nicknames for everyone—calling his daughter Christy “Crystal”, Becca “Bacon,” and Ty “Baby Ty.” Ty was loved for always being uplifting and encouraging with everyone. He comically would say at times “way to be man!” and expect a high five. He was always a thoughtful listener and loyal friend. Ty was raised in the Church of the Nazarene and shared a close spiritual bond with Reverend Francis Mwansa, who was not only his best friend but a brother. His faith was central to his life, and his community knew him as a man of integrity, love, and wisdom.
He is survived by his spouse, Tammy Sue Mansell of Midland; his children: Christy Sue Pullen (Christopher Knight), Rebecca Rose Oldham, and Tychicus Lon Roberson II, all of Midland; his son-in-law Brian Keith Pullen of Midland, TX and his daughter by choice, Alyson Taylor Overgaard of Oklahoma. He also leaves behind his boss and dear friend, Shane Hobbs; his dedicated coworkers, John Russell and Alonzo Escontrias; and his faithful secretary, Allison Barina. Finally, his nurse, Gabriel “Gabe” Matta, whose compassion and care allowed him to live as full, joyful, and healthy a life as possible.
Ty also leaves behind a legacy of furry companions who brought him comfort and joy: Fergus, Leroy, Charlie, Lola, Kitty, Phoebe, Phin, Winnie, Thor and Mr. Goose.
He was preceded in death by his beloved son, Julius Avery Roberson; his parents, Julius Cecil Roberson and Lillian Rosemond Allen Roberson; and his brothers Donald Cecil and John Douglas Roberson..
A celebration of life will be held at Ellis Resthaven Home and Memorial Park, located in Midland, TX on Friday, July 25th, 2025, at 1:00PM with a reception to follow.
