

GRIESER, Alfred Charles, 92, of Midlothian, Va., went to heaven on May 12, 2016. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Grieser. Born in New York City, he relocated from Brooklyn, N.Y. to Richmond in 1971. He is survived by his children, Carol Fischer and her husband, Warren, of Lake Barrington, Illinois and Robert Grieser and his wife, Martina, of Alexandria, Virginia; grandchildren, Courtney Fischer Schonberger and her husband, Keith, Justin Grieser and Benjamin Grieser; and his sister, Catherine Reith.
He was a member of St. Edward Catholic Church and a 4th degree Knight in the Knights of Columbus. Alfred was a U.S. Navy veteran, serving in the South Pacific during World War II. He worked for over 40 years for the American Tobacco Company, traveling throughout the United States. Al enjoyed his lawn, garden and fixing anything that could be fixed. He helped neighbors and friends in need, always willing to lend a helping hand. Many remember him working the Friday night Fish dinners at St. Edward.
The family will receive friends from 2 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, May 17, at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd., Midlothian. A Funeral Mass will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, May 18, St. Edward Catholic Church, 2700 Dolfield Dr., N. Chesterfield, Va. 23235. Interment immediately following at the Virginia Veterans Cemetery, 10300 Pridesville Rd., Amelia, Va. 23002. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to St. Edward Catholic Church.
