Obituary of Alvin Ray Floyd
Alvin Ray Floyd, age 76 of Midlothian, VA passed away on Thursday, April 25, 2024. He was born on September 1,1947 in Norfolk, VA to the late Daniel P. Floyd and Delessie Hall Floyd Dempsey. Alvin was loved and cherished by many, and as a devoted and loving father he is survived by his eldest son Damon Floyd (Teresa Floyd) of Winchester, VA; youngest son Devin Floyd (Carrie Floyd) of Midlothian, VA; and his daughter Dena Floyd of Cary, NC. He was also an amazing “Grandad” (grandfather) to four lovely boys, Xavier Floyd, Trevor Floyd, Isaac Floyd, and Jase Floyd-Miller. Alvin is also survived by his sister Deanna Holmes (J.T. Holmes), niece Dr. Karen Holmes (Edward Hill), and his great- nephew Camren Hill, along with his Uncle Leroy Hall (Ms. Betty), and great niece, Joal Broun (Jonathan Broun), along with many cousins and family members. He was preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Paulette A. Floyd. He was a brilliant scholar skipping a grade and graduating at the age of 16 from Granby High School in Norfolk, VA in 1964. He attended and started his undergraduate studies at North Carolina Technical & Agricultural State University (NC A&T) majoring in economics. He completed his B.A in Economics at The University of Pittsburgh in 1972, after marrying the love of his life Paulette A. Young Floyd in 1968. Alvin furthered his education and received his MBA from The University of Pittsburgh in 1974. Alvin retired as Business Analyst Manager from Phillip Morris in 2008. He thoroughly enjoyed life and retirement, and he was a true patron for his family, friends, community and The National Kidney Foundation. Alvin was an avid reader who kept up with all current and past events, and he loved all sports. He supported his grandkids activities and sporting events, and he enjoyed traveling, playing golf, and cards with his close group of friends. With a strong moral code and deep integrity, Alvin led with empathy and love for people in everything he did. For all who were connected with Alvin, we will hold a celebration of life memorial service. His family will provide the date, time and location in the near future. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to The National Kidney Foundation.
