Obituary of Barry John Case
CASE, Barry J., 74, passed away June 4, 2015 in Richmond, Virginia, surrounded by family and friends. He is survived by his wife of 24 years, Donna P. Case, daughter Christine Case, and granddaughter Emily Fallin, all of Richmond; brother Edward (Ned) Case, Jr. of Hummelstown, PA and nieces and nephews Edward Case, III; John Case, Pamela Lavelle, Robbie Peterson, and Michael Peterson. Barry was born in Upper Darby, Pennsylvania on September 12, 1940. Barry received his Bachelor of Arts, Political Science, degree from Widener University (formerly Pennsylvania Military College) in 1962, and was a graduate of the University of Virginia Executive Program, Darden School. From June until October of 1962 he worked as a Bank Examiner for the Federal Reserve Bank, Philadelphia Branch. He then went into the Army as a Commissioned Officer in Army Intelligence. After he completed his three-year tour of Duty, he rejoined the Federal Reserve Bank. He then went on to work for RCA Corporation in Cherry Hill, NJ; C. R. Bard, Inc. in Murray Hill, NJ; and GTE Information Services in Stamford, CT. In 1974 he joined Philip Morris in New York City and remained there until 1980 when he was transferred to Richmond, VA as the Vice President, Human Resources, Operations. His civic activities included Bon Secours Richmond Health System Foundation, Board of Directors (2006-Present), Bon Secours St. Francis Medical Center Community Advisory Board (2009-Present), Communities in Schools of Chesterfield County Board of Directors (2002-Present); Chairman (2011), YMCA of Greater Richmond Board of Directors (1991-2007) Chairman (2004-2006), Midlothian YMCA (Board of Management (2008-Present), Virginia Opera Board of Directors (2003-Present); Chairman, Central Virginia Board of Directors (2010-2012), Longwood University Board of Visitors (2000-2008) and Rector (2002-2004). Governors James Gilmore and Mark Warner both appointed him to The Longwood University Board of Directors. He was a member of The Kiwanis Club of Richmond Virginia, The Forum Club of Richmond, and St. Matthias’ Episcopal Church. His Church was an integral part of his life. There will be a memorial service at 11:00 am, Saturday, June 20, 2015 at Salisbury Presbyterian Church, 13621 West Salisbury Road, Midlothian, Virginia 23113, followed by a reception at Salisbury Country Club, 13620 West Salisbury Road, Midlothian, Virginia, 23113. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the YMCA of Greater Richmond, The Donna P. Case and Barry J. Case Scholarship Fund at Longwood University or a charity of your choice.
