

Caroline Rose Amabile, 90, died on Thursday, January 28, 2016 at her son’s home surrounded by her family. She was born March 12, 1925 in Hillsville, PA the daughter of Anthony and Mary Catale. She was a devoted and loving wife for 60 years to her husband Andrew Amabile, former U.S. Marine who served during World War II, before his passing in August, 16, 2008. Caroline will always be remembered and loved by her family and friends for her kind loving ways and her sweet nature. Her favorite things to do included spending long days at the beach with her family and dancing the night away with her husband to the big bands of the 1950 – 1960’s. She also cooked the most fabulous dinners for special occasions and holidays. Her baking skills were second to none especially her infamous cream puffs and cheesecake. She leaves to cherish her memory one daughter Patricia Preston from Atlanta, GA, son Joseph Amabile and wife Terry from Toano, VA and son Andrew Amabile and wife Kim from Richmond, VA.
She was fondly known as “Nanny” to her seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; Dr. Sean Preston and wife Jillian and their two children Ella and Finn from Concord, NC; Larry Preston and wife Victoria and their daughter Tyler Dawn from Marietta, GA; Dr. Celene Amabile from Richmond, VA; Joseph Amabile Jr. and his son Andrew from Chesterfield, VA; Keith Amabile and wife Ania and their son Christian from Rockville Centre, NY; Lauren and Evan Amabile, Richmond, VA. Caroline was one of thirteen children and the last surviving sibling preceded in death by brothers - Patsy, John, Albert, Frank, Peter, Louie, Carmen and Joe Catale; and sisters – Jennie, Florence, Kathryn and Rose. She loved being with family and as a young woman, moved to New York City to be close to her brothers, John and Pete Catale. This is where she met and married the love of her life, Andrew Amabile and spent many years there raising her family. “Sweet Aunt Caroline” is survived by many nieces and nephews who she loved dearly and who will always hold her close to their hearts. The family wished to extend a sincere thank you for the compassion support and services provided by staff of Sentara Hospice Services-Peninsula, Riverside Rehabilitation Center-West Point and to her personal caregiver Khaliyah Hawkins from Hand ‘n Heart Home Care Services.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at Huguenot Chapel, Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Rd, Midlothian, VA 23113.
