

Charles Frederick Beorn, M.D., of Powhatan, died on August 23, 2022. Born on July 11, 1941, in Parkersburg, West Virginia to William and Helen Beorn, he is preceded in death by his parents and his first wife, Leanne Wade. He is survived by his wife, Karen Coleman Beorn, son, Waitman Wade Beorn, stepdaughter, Sarah Renfro (Dan) and stepson, Thomas Coleman (Fran) and grandchildren Emmaline, Paige and Nolan.
Charles is a graduate of West Virginia University and the Medical College of Virginia. Charles’ 45-year career in internal medicine began in the small town of Anspach, Germany, where he spent three years as an Army medical doctor during the Vietnam War. After returning to the United States, Charles started his own practice as a single practitioner and was always pleased to say that he remained in that type of practice throughout his career.
Described as a true “Renaissance Man”, his passions included the arts, especially the theater, opera, and classical music; Holocaust and history studies, news reading, cycling, fitness and raising donkeys on his beautiful “Calais Farm”.
Charles served on the Vestry and as Senior Warden at Manakin Episcopal Church and on the Board of Trustees of the Virginia Holocaust Museum.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Virginia Holocaust Museum.
A Burial Service will take place at Manakin Episcopal Church, 985 Huguenot Trail, Powhatan, Va., on October 8, 2022, at 2 PM.
