

David Harold Flynn, 79, of North Chesterfield, died on January 31, 2018, after a long illness. He was born in New Haven, Conn., younger son of Alexander and Mary (Shanley) Flynn. His older brother, Alex Jr., predeceased him. Dave attended Notre Dame High School, University of Connecticut and Quinnipiac College, where he obtained an accounting degree. After college, he was drafted into the U.S. Army during the Berlin crisis and was stationed at the Army Pictorial Center in Queens, N.Y. He later worked for several CPA firms in Connecticut and the Internal Audit staff of Ethyl Corp. in Baton Rouge, La. and transferred to Richmond in 1980. He is survived by his wife, Nancy (Griswold); sons, Edward A. (Shelly), Daniel D.; and daughter, Kathleen Russell (Phillip); twin grandchildren, Noah and Colette of Fairfax; niece and nephews, John (Diana) and Robert (Frances) Flynn, Patricia (Henry) Beling and families; in-laws, Maryann and Jim Cunniff and family, Brenda Griswold and daughter, Jackie. Dave was a friendly and outgoing person, loved golf, playing and watching it on TV and figuring scores and handicaps for the Providence Golf Club. He also loved music and reading historical and political books. The family will receive friends on February 10, 2018, at Woody Funeral Home, Huguenot Chapel, from 4 to 7 p.m. A memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
