

David Carroll Irby passed away unexpectedly on March 27, 2024, at the age of 66. He was preceded in death by his parents James Carroll Irby and Patsye Covington Irby, and his nephew Greg Sculthorpe. He is survived by his devoted wife of 43 years, Sheryl Gregory Irby; his son Kevin Irby (Olivia Planes) and daughter Jenny Carroll Kirkbride (Nick); and three precious grandchildren Calla Jo Irby, Eleanor Grace (Ellie) and Theodore Carroll (Teddy) Kirkbride; his sister Sarah Irby Hopkins; his sister-in-law Robin Sculthorpe (Jimmy); nephews Evan and Benjamin Hopkins; and niece Anna Gray Sculthorpe. He also leaves behind many dear aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
David was raised in Midlothian, Virginia. He began working in the grocery business at age 15 with a job at Ukrops. He studied sales and marketing at Virginia Tech, graduating in 1980. He immediately joined the Kraft Foods sales force where he worked until he retired in 2013. David was a member of Mt. Pisgah Methodist Church where he faithfully served in many capacities including working with the Boy Scouts. He loved music, reading, and in later years, researching family history. David will be remembered for his compassionate heart and the love he so generously shared with his family and friends. He cherished the time spent with his grandchildren who lovingly called him "GrrGrr."
A memorial service will be held on April 6, 2024, at 11:30 am, at Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel, with a reception to follow.
