Born on October 9, 1935 to Richard and Irma Peterson. Gramps, as he was affectionately named by his grandchildren, lived a life marked by kindness, unconditional love, and devotion to family.
David was predeceased by his parents; his sister’s Lucille Mccabe (Frank) and Marilynn Mendelson (Ralph); and his brother Richard Peterson. He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Peterson; his children, Michelle Ambrose (Doug), David Peterson Jr. (Erin), and Amy Peterson; his cherished grandchildren, Kendall, Paige, and Avery Ambrose, and Merritt and Alex Peterson; and his brother, Reverend Jesuit Paul Peterson.
A graduate of New Albany high school, David spent a year at the seminary before earning a Bachelor of Arts degree in business on a full tennis scholarship at Bellarmine University. While at Bellarmine Dave (as he came to be known) picked up golf, which he played with customary ease and enjoyed throughout his life. His professional career began with sales and management roles at General Electric and Carrier heating and Air Conditioning, concluding with 23 years at The Trane Company, where he rose to Head of Sales for the Northeast Region.
Beyond his career, Dave embraced life through his many passions. A natural athlete, he loved tennis and golf. Born into a very musical family, Dave played the drums from elementary school throughout his years in high school. Starting drums in second grade, the school band director had to fashion him a smaller snare that his young frame could support while he marched.
In retirement he discovered a love for painting and enjoyed taking classes offered by the local community college. He played tennis virtually every day and golfed whenever he had the chance. Dave’s greatest joy, however, was his family. He never missed a moment to support their activities and cheer their accomplishments. He will be fondly remembered by all as a kind, gentle soul who exemplified devotion to family and unconditional love.
Dave’s legacy will live on in the heart of all who knew him, a testament to a life well lived in a man well loved.
A celebration of life will be held in his hometown of Louisville, Kentucky at a date to be determined.
