

He was preceded in death by his parents, Dwight and Macy Bennett.
He is survived by his spouse of 48 years, Bonnie Bennett; his son, Michael Bennett (Adrienne); sister, Noreen Simon (Robert), and their son, Wayne Robert Simon (Noelle); his brother, Robert Bennett (Judy Ann) and their son, Jonathan Lowe (Kana); and great-nephews, Oliver and Frederick Simon, Ryan Lowe and a great-niece, Emily Lowe.
After graduating SUNY Oswego, he joined the Peace Corps and taught woodworking in Tonga, South Pacific for two years. Upon returning home, he began his career in upstate New York working for the Northeastern Association of the Blind and later the NYS Department of Corrections. He later received his Masters of Education from SUNY Albany. He worked for the Virginia Department of Correctional Education, later the Department of Corrections, retiring after 24 years. He loved boating, traveling, archery, model airplane flying and woodworking, but most of all he loved spending time with his family.
A celebration of life for will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2025 at 11am at Woody Funeral Home.
