Edith Jones, long time resident of Darien, Connecticut and current resident of Richmond, Virginia, died Monday April 25, 2011. Born March 12, 1928, in Union City, New Jersey, Edith received her nursing degree from Flower Fifth Avenue Hospital in New York City and worked at Stamford Hospital in Stamford, Connecticut throughout her 35 year career. In 1951, when Edith was 23, she met and married her life companion, Richard Jones. Together, they lived for 48 years in Darien, in the same house, and successfully raising four children. Edith was an avid walker and took daily walks of several miles to Cove Island, a park on the Long Island Sound near their home. Edith and Richard also travelled extensively, spending time in Germany with her extended family with whom she was very close, and also visiting Thailand, Alaska, Canada, The Rhine River and the Panama Canal. Edith was an expert quilter and gifted her children, grand children and great grandchildren with heirlooms of her love. Her baking skills were also unmatched and she was known for both her 'sticky buns' and her German spaetzels. Today, her grandchildren carry on the tradition of her beloved recipes. Edith is lovingly survived by her husband of 60 years, Richard Jones, her four children, Dick, Karen, Chris, and Doug, and their families, including four grand children and two great grandchildren. She will missed and loved forever.
In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts in Edith's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Association.
