I met Edith at Manchester Baptist Church when I was 16. I was a wonderful pianist. I was the accompanist for my high school mixed choir, girls ensemble and boys chorus. And thanks to Edith, she paved the way for me to become a talented church musician. She taught me that we could have fun and give our joy to the Lord without have perfection every single Sunday. Later on as a VCU student, I held down 3 jobs and often I could not practice the technically challenging pieces she purchased for us to play. She would just laugh and say "do what you can". I loved her smile, her way of dressing, the love and joy she had for Kelly, Susan and Catherine. Often we would be late practicing or finishing up a service and Kelly would be ready to go and she would simply smile and say "He will wait for me this time." And that giggle! I loved her so much and I thank God for the inspiration she was and still is in my life. Heaven received a true angel.

Edith and I made a great team as we taught together for many years. Edith was always the creative one who always encouraged us when doing projects. Even after retirement we stayed close. I always looked up to Edith as my spiritual mentor. She always had a Bible verse that would lift your spirits through any "storm". Through the years we shared our family stories and watched our children grow into adulthood.
Edith had many families: Her real family, her church family, her Hening family, and her RVA Christian Women's Connection family just to name a few. She touched so many lives and we shall all miss that wonderful smile.

Words cannot express how much Edith will be missed by her sweet daughters , their families and me. She was a joy to be around. Someone said she was “A light in a dark world”. She touched so many lives. Thank God for her life.

Edith, forever cheerful, forever joyful, forever supportive, forever friend! Your smile could light up a room and it was obvious to anyone who had the pleasure of knowing you, that the light within you was even brighter than your smile. The Lord showed us how to be better faithful servants with you as our guide. Your music touched us deeply every Wednesday night and every Sunday morning. We love you and we rest easy knowing that you are with the Lord. We miss you greatly, but you will always be in our hearts and in our minds.
Your forever friends, Tina Bachar and Faye Gamble
