Betty was born in Bedford, England on October 5, 1946 to James and Mary Tobin. Betty became a nurse and met her soon-to-be husband Edmond "Ed" Anthony while he was convalescing at the hospital she worked as a nurse. Betty and Ed married in 1968 and went on to have three children - Helen, James, and Tommy. Betty moved to the United States with Ed in 1971 and spent the remainder of her life there.
After moving to the U.S., Betty worked as an ER Nurse for many years. She later went on to become Office Manager for several medical practices throughout her career. After retiring, Betty volunteered at the Chesterfield County Aging and Disability Service in the Telephone Reassurance Program. She was nominated for the Chesterfield County Senior Volunteer Hall of Fame in 2021 and was a lifeline to the many lives that she touched. Betty was a rare kind of individual that made the people in her life feel seen, appreciated, and cared for.
Betty had a tremendous appreciation for the arts and literature. She was a voracious reader and loved to go to museums, especially art exhibits. She could spend hours marveling over each little detail with a deep appreciation. Her own artistic abilities bloomed over the last few years when she started to paint her own pictures at home. Betty was very fond of Broadway shows. Some of her favorites were Phantom of the Opera, Les Misérables, and Hamilton. Betty could frequently be found tending to her garden and enjoyed it immensely. Later in life, she became an avid bird watcher and had several bird feeders at her home so she could have the pleasure of seeing them daily.
Betty is predeceased by her parents James Tobin and Mary Evans; her brother, Toby; and her husband, Ed Anthony. She is survived by her three children Helen Dean (Jason), James, Tommy (Nichole), and her beloved grandchildren Brody and Ayla. Words are inadequate to express how deeply Betty was and will continue to be loved by her family and friends. She was nothing short of exceptional.
A Celebration of Life for Betty will be held at Woody’s Funeral Home on February 3rd at 10 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the American Cancer Society.
