Betty passed away peacefully, on February 21, 2026 at the age of 92. She lived a full and blessed life. She was predeceased in death by her loving and devoted husband of 63 years, John Francis (Jack) Battel, and her five siblings and parents.
Betty and Jack's greatest legacy is their five children and their spouses, nine grandchildren and their families, and one great grandchild. Betty inspired and thrived in the love and appreciation of her family.
Betty, a faithful Catholic, always carried several rosaries in her pocketbook and kept rosaries within reach in her room. Kind and thoughtful, she often befriended other women in need of caring and compassion. She had a twinkle in her eyes and a smile that captivated those around her. Even as she lost her hearing, she communicated through those eyes and smile. She could also be the Irish matriarch, reminding her loved ones that she was the "daughter of Nellie Doyle."
Faithful to her Irish roots, and with Jack and two of their children as alumni of Notre Dame, she was a devoted fan of the Fighting Irish. She was always wearing one of the many Notre Dame sweaters and jackets that filled her closet. She was lovingly called "Notre Dame" by friends and caregivers.
Betty always wanted the best for her family. She loved shopping, visiting her favorite department stores with her children in tow. Her closets were a testament to that throughout her years. Viewing famous department store Christmas decorations brought her joy and wonder.
Betty had a passion for delicious food and desserts. Ice cream was always a favorite of hers, chocolate and vanilla with hot fudge sauce, if available. It was a joy to see her savoring every spoonful.
Betty loved animals and nature. She cared for pet dogs, cats, birds and fish. Her and Jack's last dog, George, even had his very own leather chair. She enjoyed visits to zoos and botanical gardens.
