Emma Whitlow Montgomery

Emma W. Montgomery passed away on December 16, 2023. Emma was born is Person County, NC. She moved to Hopewell, Va as a teenager and remained there most of her life. She graduated from Hopewell High School in 1963. During her career, she worked in the payroll departments at Firestone Synthetic Fibers and Textiles Co. and Southside Regional Medical Center (Petersburg). Emma was a devoted daughter, mother and grandmother. One of her favorite ways to show her love was through cooking, and Emma was a wonderful cook. Some of her family’s favorites were beef stroganoff, chicken salad, green beans, cornbread and banana pudding. Her favorite hobby was gardening. She inherited her green thumb from her mother. Emma was preceded in death by her father, David A. Whitlow, her mother Idarea N. Walker, and her stepfather William R. Walker. Emma is survived by her son, Curtis T. Montgomery, III (“Trey”), his wife Lesley, and her two granddaughters, Abigail and Madeline. The family acknowledges and thanks Emma’s many dear friends who enriched her life and supported her always. A graveside service will be held at Virgilina Cemetery in Virgilina, Virginia on Thursday, December 21, 2023 at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Huguenot Road Baptist Church, 10525 W Huguenot Rd, North Chesterfield, VA 23235.
