

Shaw Massie (Tammy);grandchildren, Francis Stanfard Massie III,Harrison Austin Massie,Madeline Amelia Massie;his brother, Thomas Clement Massie (Nancy);and many other relatives and friends. Dr. Massie was born and raised in Waynesville, a small town in the mountains of North Carolina and attended
Duke University as an undergraduate, as well as for medical school.His pediatric internship was completed at Duke University. He trained in pediatrics and allergy at the University of California at San Francisco Medical Center, where he was a chief resident. Dr. Massie served two years in the U.S. Naval Hospital at Camp Pendleton. He was recruited to VCU/MCV, and from 1967 to 1977 he taught general pediatrics as a fulltime academician.He developed the first Board approved training program in pediatric allergy in Virginia. In 1977, Dr. Massie went into private practice for allergy and was part-time director of
the Newport News Family Practice Clinic in allergy. He was a clinical professor of pediatrics at MCV from 1983 to the present. He was a co-founder of
the Virginia Allergy and Asthma Society and served as President twice. He served on many hospital and academic committees. He maintained a vibrant
clinical practice for 37 years, first in solo practice then for the last 12 years with Richmond Allergy & Asthma Specialists. He was passionate about
caring for his patients and continued to see patients up until weeks before his death. He also enjoyed gardening, music, playing piano, traveling and hiking
with his children and grandchildren. Dr. Massie has two sons, F. Stanford Massie Jr., M.D., who graduated from MCV and is Professor of Internal Medicine at the University of Alabama School Of Medicine in Birmingham, Alabama and Tristan S. Massie, who received his Ph.D. in Biostatistics from MCV and works
for the U.S. Food and Drug Administration in Maryland. Services will be held at 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 28, at Emmanuel Episcopal Church, Emmanuel Church Road, Powhatan, Va. 23139, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Burial will take place in Waynesville, N.C.
