Frank was born on February 3, 1935 in Norfolk, Virginia. He lived in many different places during his childhood as his family moved frequently for his father’s job. After graduating high school in Idaho, he attended Clarkson University where he majored in mechanical engineering. He accepted a job in North Carolina where he met the love of his life, Peggy. They were married in 1959, one year after their first date.
In 1971, Frank and Peggy moved their family from North Carolina to Virginia, where he and his brother, Dick, started a business, Applied Fluid Power (now AFP Industries). He cherished the relationships that he had with the company’s employees and all of the friendships that he made throughout his fifty-year career there.
Frank enjoyed a full and active life. One of his favorite activities was snow skiing, which he enjoyed until the age of 82. In the summers he created many fond memories at Lake Gaston with his family and friends. He also had a love for travel, and he and Peggy had many adventures all over the world into their 80’s. This was well documented with Frank’s passion for photographing life events and vacations.
Frank was a faithful man of Christian principles and an active member of two local churches, Bethany Place Baptist Church and then, Bon Air Baptist Church. He loved the Lord and served Him in many capacities, as a deacon, church trustee, and a member of many church committees. His Christian values were evident to all who knew him and served as an example to his family and others.
He was a devoted husband and father, and the best Pawpaw anyone could ask for. He loved sharing his family’s history and stories with his children and grandchildren, which they will forever cherish.
Frank was preceded in death by his parents Frank Joseph Kish and Katherine Smith Kish. He is survived by his wife of almost 66 years, Peggy Keeter Kish; children, Kathy Oldham (Bob) and Wayne Kish (Alice); grandchildren, Melissa Hunt (Andy), Robert Oldham (fiancé, Sarah), Richard Kish (Brooke), Mary Katherine Kish, and David Kish; great-grandchildren, Caroline Kish, Austin Hunt, and Bramley Kish; brother, Dick Kish (Linda) and sister, Joyce Trucks; and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Friday, January 31, at 1:00 p.m. at Bon Air Baptist Church – 2531 Buford Road, Richmond Virginia 23235. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made in Frank’s memory to the American Heart Association or to the Bon Air Baptist Church Mission Endowment Fund.
