Gail L. Taylor, M.D.

Gail Lynn Taylor, M.D. passed away June 16, 2025 at St Francis Hospital after a 2-week fight with pneumonitis triggered by a recent chemotherapy treatment. Gail had bravely fought breast cancer for 20 years and fought stage IV cancer for 10 years. She was a fighter, whether it was the breast cancer, for her patients over the years, or for her family and friends.

Gail was born in Bryan, Texas on April 23, 1955. She spent much of her childhood in Columbus, Ohio before moving to Rockville, Maryland. There she met her husband, Floyd, on the first day of 10th grade, and they were together ever since. She first received a degree in Music Education at West Virginia University, but then felt a calling to become a doctor. She received a BS in Biology at the University of Maryland, and then moved to Richmond to attend the Medical College of Virginia. After residency, she settled in the area and practiced, first at Prucare Health, then starting Courthouse Family Practice, and finally moving to begin Charter Colony Family Practice at St. Francis. She retired from practice in April, 2024.

Gail had many passions. Her love of music lasted her whole life. In the last 15-20 years, she discovered a love for ballet and frequently took classes at Richmond Ballet and Passion Academy. She loved to travel, and thanks to her son, Michael, she even learned to love roller coasters. She loved to explore the Richmond food scene which has grown so much since she moved here. And she loved her smooth fox terriers, Gambi, Cabbie, Baloo and Simon.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Floyd Taylor; her son Michael Taylor; her brother Glen Mountney of Rockville, Maryland; her nephews Jonathan O’Dette of Midlothian, Virginia and Jeremy O’Dette of Delaware, Ohio, and their families.

A memorial service is planned for her family and friends on July 19 at 2 pm at the Woody Funeral Home at 1020 Huguenot Road in Midlothian. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Richmond SPCA (https://richmondspca.org/how-you-can-help/donate/).
