Harold Wells “Hal” Storck, 79, passed away on September 24, 2018 at his home in Midlothian, Virginia where he resided since 1992. He was the beloved husband of Carol Snethen Storck for 51 years. Throughout his life he was known and loved for his positive outlook and warm, beaming smile.
Hal, aka Skeeter, was born and raised in Middletown, Ohio; he was the son of Carl Waldron Storck and Martha Ann McCamey Storck. Growing up on Dix Road, he loved spending time playing baseball and basketball. He also had a special gift for playing piano. He graduated from Monroe High School (57’) and from Miami University (61’) in Oxford, Ohio where he had four fantastic years, involving many campus activities, especially the Sigma Nu’s. Hal and Carol formed a “Miami Merger” in 1967. Former places of residency once married included Indianapolis, IN; Bridgewater, NJ; Jackson, MS; Leawood, KS, and Germantown, TN.
Hal voluntarily served as a proud officer in the United States Marine Corp after completing OCS in Quantico, Virginia prior to his tour during the early years of the Vietnam War. He cherished lifelong friendships with many from this special group. Semper Fi.
Hal retired as an Executive Sales Manager from BASF Corporation where he worked for 28 years. He was respected for his professionalism, character and strong work ethic.
He was a longstanding, active member of the Salisbury Presbyterian Church and over a 50 year member of the Jefferson Masonic Lodge #90 of Middletown, Ohio. He served on the Board of the Salisbury HOA. He spent time as a Starter/Marshal at Independence Golf Club from the time they opened. More recently he stayed active in the Hawthorne Cancer Support Group. Besides golf, he was an avid tennis and card player. Hal enjoyed all activities involving his family and cherished his grandchildren.
He will be remembered for his zest for life, devotion to family, integrity, positive attitude, great smile, and friendly nature. He fought a long hard fight and beat many odds by living with lung cancer for over 6 ½ years. His strength was his determination. He was always planning and setting goals. He will continue to be an inspiration for many as we try to live by the wonderful example he set. His family would like to thank his many kind friends and the doctors and nurses that were a part of his life.
Hal is survived by his wife Carol, daughter Dr. Elizabeth Ritzenthaler, DVM (Paul), sons David A. Storck (Sara) and Major Robert M. Storck, USMC (LtCol Misty Posey, USMC), and 10 grandchildren, Shaelyn, Samuel, Barrett, Carol, Trevor, Jessica, Christina, Elizabeth, Michelle, and Christan. He also leaves behind his brother Michael Storck (Stephanie) and sister Jeanie Catron, sister-in-law’s Ann Beck (Charles), Jean Curlis, Joyce Snethen, and numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Martha Storck and by brothers David and John and sister Susan.
The Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 12, 2018 at 11AM at Salisbury Presbyterian Church in Midlothian, VA, with a reception to follow. A graveside service will occur at Woodside Cemetery and Arboretum in Middletown, Ohio in July 2019.
