Born on June 1, 1933, in Dendron, Virginia, and raised in Suffolk, Virginia, Henry lived a life defined by faith, family, and integrity.
Henry graduated from the University of Richmond in 1955 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting and earned varsity letters in tennis. After serving as a lieutenant in the United States Navy, he built a distinguished career with Reynolds Metals Company. During his tenure, he attended the Stanford Executive Program at Stanford University's Graduate School of Business. He retired in 1998 as Executive Vice President and Chief Financial Officer.
Henry enjoyed golf, hunting, and travel. Among his favorite memories was a trip to Europe aboard the Concorde. Henry found special joy at the family's summer home on the Chesapeake Bay, where he enjoyed swimming and fishing with his grandchildren, teaching them to drive his vintage convertible, and gathering around bonfires on the beach.
Above all else, Henry was a faithful servant of the Lord. A member of Bon Air Baptist Church for more than 60 years, his faith shaped his character. A man of few words, he expressed his love through a lifetime of service and responsibility to his family, church, and community.
Henry deeply missed his beloved wife, Anne, whom he met in 1960 while they worked at Reynolds Metals Company. Together, they built a life marked by love, faith, and unwavering devotion to one another. She preceded him in death in 2023, and the family takes comfort in knowing they are together again.
He is survived by his children, Anne Atkinson DeLeo (Art), Scott Savedge (Kyna), Kent Savedge (Tara), and Lyn Savedge Page (Mike); his grandchildren, Sarah Atkinson Stover (Darrin), Griffin Savedge, Grace Savedge, Katie Page, Emily Page, Jake Savedge, Henry Page, Riley Savedge, and Jackson Savedge; and his sister, Ann Savedge Herring (Bob), and their family.
The family wishes to thank Toni Gibson, Tamisha Harvey, Yvonne Ruttley, Sandy Stilgenbauer, and Jackie Studwood, whose compassionate care allowed Henry to remain safely and comfortably at home during the final years of his life.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 3, from 6:00-8:00 PM at Woody Funeral Home on Midlothian Turnpike.
A private graveside service will be held at Hollywood Cemetery, where Henry will be laid to rest beside his beloved wife.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Anna Julia Cooper School, ajcschool.org or ChildSavers, childsavers.org, honoring Henry's lifelong commitment to education and helping others.
