Jackie Compton Cordle

Jacqueline (Jackie) Compton Cordle, 78, of North Chesterfield, Virginia, died on July 21, 2026. Born January 31, 1948, in Washington D.C., she spent time in Morgantown, West Virginia, before settling in the Ginter Park section of Richmond.

Jackie graduated from John Marshall High School in 1965 and began her career with the federal government at the age of 18. From the start, her steady diligence and determined spirit were evident: she entered federal service as a GS-3 Clerk/Stenographer earning $3,900 per year, producing 30–40 charts weekly by hand for the installation commander’s review. Over the years, through perseverance and an unwavering work ethic, she advanced to management analyst (GS-12), where she took on center reorganizations and other projects in planning and resource management. She worked two jobs for as long as her family can remember—DSCR and Leggett Dept. Store—until retiring from federal service in April of 2003.

Retirement did not still her energy for long. Restless to remain engaged, Jackie went on to work for Tropical Treehouse at Cross Creek Nursery, where her green thumb and gentle attentiveness made her a natural fit. She also served her community faithfully, holding almost every office on her HOA board over the years and maintaining the resident directory until the very end—quiet, consistent service that reflected a deeply caring heart and a resilience that inspired those around her.

Above all, Jackie was cherished by her family. As her son Jeff grew up playing baseball, football, basketball, soccer, and running track and field, she made sure he had every piece of equipment he needed and hardly ever missed a game—an enduring example of devotion expressed through countless practical acts of love.

Jackie also found joy in the company of friends and neighbors, enjoying social gatherings and games of Tripoley, Poker, and Bunco. She delighted in coin collecting and in working jigsaw puzzles with her family, and she held a particular fondness for dragonflies and sloths. Even during her time in the hospital, she brought warmth and light to those around her, sharing comfort and smiles with the staff through her stuffed sloth, Marge, and bumblebee, Fuzzy.

She was preceded in death by her father, Donald R. Compton, and her mother, Evelyn B. Compton. She is survived by her son, Jeffrey A. Cordle (Beth Cordle); her grandchildren, Ashton Cordle, Hudson Cordle, Aubrey Kranz, Brandon Kranz; and her sister, Barbara C. Carr.

Visitation will be held at Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Midlothian, VA 23113, on August 6, 2026, from 11:00 am to 1:30 pm. Jacqueline’s final resting place will be Dale Memorial Park, 10201 Newbys Bridge Rd, Chesterfield.

Mom always had that gift of making anyone who met her feel special and loved with a smile and a hug.
