IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel
Janis Patricia Harrison (nee Hopkins) passed away unexpectedly on December 26, 2021 in Virginia while on a trip to visit her daughters and their families.
Janis drew her strength from family. She leaves behind to cherish her memory her husband N. Thomas, married 60 years; daughters Joan Morton (Steve), Kristine (Jamie Hey); grandchildren Jordan Morton, Melissa Hey (Thomas Moutinho), Jessica Morton, Andrea Hey; and her great granddaughter Mia Hibbs. In addition she is survived by many loving nieces and nephews and their families.
Janis was predeceased by her parents Orville and Anita Hopkins of Newberry, Michigan and her brother Robert Hopkins (Lorene) of Chicago, Illinois.
Janis was born in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan on March 17, 1945. She attended school in Pickford, Michigan where she met her future husband Tom. They were married at the Pickford Presbyterian Church.
Janis and Tom raised their children while living in several different areas of the country. They eventually settled in Pennsylvania and lived there for almost 40 years where they started and ran a custom cabinetry business together. After retiring they returned to their childhood hometown in Michigan’s Upper Peninsula.
Janis was a devoted spouse, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She was a spiritual woman who remained active in the United Methodist or Presbyterian Church wherever she lived, and was involved in many community and volunteer activities throughout the years. She found joy in being with her family, walking nature trails, gardening, and spending time near the water, especially along the shores of the Great Lakes. She will be missed by her family, friends and all who knew her.
A small memorial gathering is being planned for January in Pennsylvania; a funeral service will follow in the spring in Michigan.
Memorial donations can be made to the Hessel School House Avery Arts & Nature Center. Please indicate your donation is in honor of Janis Harrison.
