Joan Sawyer Hayes Killorn

Joan was born in Richmond, Virginia and spent her youth in Scotland Neck, North Carolina before returning to Richmond during high school.

Joan retired from the Federal Reserve Bank of Richmond and maintained lifelong friendships made there. Following retirement, she worked for the Senate of Virginia. She was a long-time member of Bon Air Baptist Church before transferring her membership to Winfree Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and tennis with friends and volunteering at her church. Her greatest joy was her family, and she had a gift for making each feel her favorite.

She is survived by her husband, Bill Killorn; daughters Cindy Hayes Stark (Rick), Debbie Hayes Stevens (Ned) and Kathy Hayes McMullin; her husband’s children, Chris Killorn (Ginger) and Carrie Smaker (Sy); 10 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her mother, Camilla Royall McCraney, and her twin brother Gene Sawyer.

A memorial service will be held at Winfree Church on Monday, March 25, 2024, at 2:00pm. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Winfree Church or the charity of your choice.
