I knew John from the time he was an Officer and worked with him for several years at PCC. He would always ask to make rounds with me and the day was always full of laughter when he was with me. 
I really can't articulate the sadness I feel as we have lost a wonderful person and a great VaDOC team member.  
My prayers are with his family, friends, and the State Farm Team.
He's in the Lord's care now and we'll see him again one day.

Sgt. Bendrick was a fun and outgoing man. I worked with him at Powhatan Correctional Center for a few years.  He was an honest man and everyone adored him. I learned a lot through his trainings and just the knowledge he shared during conversations and his experiences that he shared. I send my sympathy and my condolences to his family.  Sgt. Sgt. Bendrick will be missed dearly. Been knowing him for almost 20 years. Learning from him when he taught in-service classes and when I would teach first aid classes he would give some advice on how to present the material being taught to help engaged the class to make it more inviting to learn. He was a man full of energy all the time. He was a guy who showed a different level of professionalism. He could be hard on you, but he did it respectfully. I appreciate what I have learned from him. My thoughts and prayers go out to him family. Rest in peace Sgt. Bendrick . Job well done.

My heart is Heavy and my eyes Teary. I will truly miss your entrance here in SFCC.  "Good Morning Beautiful" was always your greeting to me.  Your energy for years will always be etched in my memories. Fare ware my friend. 

I met Sgt. Bendrick while working as Secretary Senior for Powhatan Correctional Center years ago.  Sgt. Bendrick was full of laughter and showed a uplifting spirit to other people when they were discouraged.  He will be greatly missed.  But, God is now rewarding him with peace and tranquility as he rests in his heavenly mansion.

John will truly be missed, I worked with him for many years at the training school and I will forever cherish the memory. My sincere condolences to the family.

There was never a dull moment around you Sgt Bendrick ( my friend), You meant so much to the many lives that you have touched . Your work here on earth is  over it is time to take your place with the heavenly father. Sleep in peace to you both.

I sit here with a broken heart to share some memories of Sgt. John Bendrick. From my first days at PCC and PRCC Sgt. Bendrick took me under his wings to insure that I knew how to carry myself on the compound.  John was a good friend and I knew that if I ever had any questions I could go to him. Sgt. Bendrick was an awesome supervisor.  He would come to my control booth and quiz me on IOP's and DOP's and if I got something wrong he would tell me to go back and read it again. He was a great instructor at the SFTC and he always made the classes interesting.  He knew how to tell a good story and keep you laughing.  But most of all he was a wonderful and caring man.  Sgt. Bendrick will be missed.  This world has lost a great human being.  RIP Sgt. Bendrick

My friend, I'm so glad I got to see not to long.  It was good to share memories from years ago, of our favorite work place, Capitol Police.  You will be missed!  My condolences to your family and my you forever rest in peace.

For the last few days I have been remembering times with young John when I met and married his sister Lucille. We all piled in my VW van to do camping trips to the Outer Banks with Tootie, Annie, John, Lucille and myself.  I spent today looking for a picture of young John helping me drag my Hobie Catamaran over the sand dunes to sail it off the beach.  Together we sloshed in the waves, jumped on board and began pulling lines to tighten the sail.  The catamaran took off like a rocket.  Flying thru the surf it was all he and I could do to hold on...it was bouncing and flying and surging with the swell.  He seemed skeptical that this was really ‘sailing’ and said he preferred calmer water.  He was a great kid, eager to learn and always happy. That was many years ago, but recently when he saw on Facebook that I was in Italy he asked if I could get him some dirt from Rome.  Somewhere near the Coliseum I was able to find some dirt I could secretly put in a baggie and send to him. He was very happy about that and sent me a Civil War Bullet he had found in return. I love that he always stayed very real and interested in life.  I value his friendship.  He was a wonderful person. 

Sergeant Bedrick was always keeping me laughing and he taught me a lot about Faith, Respect, Ethics & more importantly Bonds of Love & Friendship. He can never be replaced and I will never forget his smile & wisdom. Rest In Power Stickman!!

I am still in shock but I know John is in a better place. He always have me laughing especially when I am having a bad day rest in peace my friend.

Until I met John; I never knew a person so full of life.  I had the pleasure to know him for 6 short years, but one thing was for sure he loved his work family.  His hugs, his advice and concern for my children and I will never be forgotten. His level of humor on a daily was what kept most people on their toes and made daily stresses seem doable. I  still can hear his whistling and "well tuned" voice singing around HR when he made his daily check in with everyone.  He memory will forever be cherished and I hope he knew just what he meant to every life he touched. RIP Bendrick 🙏 💙🖤

I did not know your brother, but I just love his sister Tuttie and have met 2 other sisters.  So please know that my heart breaks for your family.  Praying and sending my love to you all.

John was a person when he entered a room everybody smiled and laughed. We worked together at Powhatan Correctional Center for years. And he was always helpful and available to help me out no matter the day or time. He was dedicated to what he did and loved his job.  He made everyone feel welcomed to the Powhatan family and was the life of the party.  He is now that part of my like I will miss so much from high school Benedictine to the work life he was more than a friend but my brother. Thank you John for being real and genuine rest in peace my Brother I will never forget you. ❤

John was funny and was fun to be around, I knew sgt. Bendrick for many years I enjoyed his teaching of the gang class  at the training school  he will be truly missed my condolences to the family. 

We are both extremely saddened to hear of the loss of John. He was one  of the last truly good guys left.  John’s passing will forever leave a void in our hearts. He was a great friend, coworker and a brother to us and everyone who knew him.

John Bendricks still in shock. Just reminiscing of the night calls we would have when I was going to lock somebody up lol. I csn remember you half sleep telling me Capt lock him up lol. You was always there willing to help and give your investigative advice on situation. I am forever grateful for you. You and Bev will definitely be missed. To we meet again My Brother. To the Family we know all his friends and family loved him but God loved him more so he is in heaven smiling down on us. Our God makes no mistakes he called home for 2 of his angels. John, we laughed together, cried together, prayed together.  We talked about events that happened in our hometown of Reading, PA and the Philadelphia Eagles.  My husband and I will always remember and will never forget that you were a true friend to both of us.  I told you before and I say it now, Much Love my Friend “ Rev”!

A tremendous loss to those of us who had the privilege and honor of being your friend.  We were not only co-workers we, I,  considered you family.  You had my back countless times over the years and have made me laugh until I cried.  There is rarely a memory  during my 20 plus years in DOC that doesn't include you.  You were firm when you needed to be but most of all you were full of life, love and laughter.   Though my heart has been heavy with sadness since I learned of your passing, I know I was blessed to have known you.   Rest easy John.  Your memory and legacy will live forever in our hearts and memories.

JB was a friend and coworker with DOC. I enjoyed instructing with him at SFTC. He always called me Uncle Dave and I called him JB. He always had something to say and full of smiles. Thank you for being a friend with me. RIP JB and Beverly

Bendrick was an inspiration, a teacher, he always wanted to make sure you knew what you were talking about and what to do next. He made me laugh, a true comedian; just a cool dude! My heart is sadden but the memories of our conversations & work interactions will live on!

John either made you laugh or learn. His energy was endless and contagious in all the best ways. He will always be one of my most favorite mentors. John was more than my friend, he was truly my brother. From the first day we met and he greeted me with "what's up stick?" I knew we would be friends for life. He taught me, supported me, when no one else would. His loss leaves a giant hole in humanity. He was one of the most kind hearted people I have ever met.
