John Richard Dingwell

John Richard Dingwell, age 77, passed away to glory peacefully on Tuesday, September 15, 2026. He was preceded in death by his parents, Maurice Dingwell and Kathryn Dingwell. He is survived by his siblings, Kristi Morrison (Denny), Susie Pettit, and Michael Dingwell (Cyndi), his wife Jody Dingwell, his children, Jennifer Beck,

Jackie Keesee (Alan), Jason Dingwell (Jessica) and Joshua Dingwell (Lisa), as well as ten cherished grandchildren.

John was born in Omaha, where he spent his childhood and early adulthood and started his lifelong career in appliance sales. While his career moved him to various locations around the country, the most important stop was in Indianapolis, IN where in 1980 he met and married the love of his life, Jody. Since 2012, they have enjoyed the country lifestyle in Powhatan, VA where they cultivated a beautiful home, garden and family-like relationships with neighbors and friends.

All through life, John accrued rich friendships with his sense of humor and unending care for those around him. He loved a good joke, was known for his ability to grill anything to perfection, and had a gift of hospitality that welcomed even people he didn’t know well into his home for a meal. He enjoyed collecting and learning about antiques and could often be found in his office looking through family heirlooms with a story to share about each one. He and Jody bred Chocolate Lab puppies, calling each litter their “box of chocolates” and keeping several over the years that became beloved family members in their own right. A highlight of every year was his family reunion trip to the Outer Banks, a tradition started by his parents in 1987 that continued through the most recent trip in 2026. For the past 38 years, John and Jody were integral members of Kingsway Community Church, where they raised children and lived life alongside dear friends. He loved Jesus Christ who gave him joy through the various seasons of his life.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 to 3:00pm at Kingsway Community Church (1200 Coalfield Road, Midlothian, VA 23114) on Saturday, September 26th followed by a memorial of life service at 3:00pm.
