Springer, Judy Ann, 67, of Richmond, departed this life peacefully on July 25, 2017 at home. She was predeceased by her father, Russell Ertsgaard, mother, Jane Ertsgaard, and sister, Wanda Tucker. Judy is survived by brothers: James “Sonny” (wife Alice, two sons, Richard and Eric Ertsgaard), Robert (son, James Ertsgaard), and Ronald Ertsgaard and sisters: Emma Jane Cummings (sons, James “Mickey”, John and Edward and daughter Theresa Craig), Cheryl Byrum (two sons, Patrick and Paul Smith; daughter-in-laws, Melissa Smith and Stephanie Hart; and three grandchildren: Jordan, Caroline, and Michael Lee). Judy was from a large extended family of cousins, nephews, and nieces who were always in her thoughts.

Judy was born on May 31, 1950 in Norfolk, Virginia and was a 22 year resident of Maryland. Judy lived a fulfilled life, epitomized by kindness, generosity, graciousness, strength, determination, and hard work. Unselfishly, she committed her life to her family and friends. Judy was a cherished civil servant of the Federal Government since two-weeks after graduation from high school from Great Bridge in 1968. She served both the US Navy (July 3, 1968 to October 14, 1991) and the Army until her retirement in 2015 as computer specialist.

Judy took great pride in providing for her family and considered this one of her greatest accomplishments. Judy can be best described as always thinking of others before herself and was always reliable. In her brief retirement to Richmond, VA she enjoyed spending time sharing stories of the family history, rediscovering family recipes and sharing them, shopping on Amazon for every item in the world, attending softball games, dance recitals, and being close to family. In her spare time she enjoyed tinkering on her computer and watching movies.

The family will receive friends and loved ones for a memorial service on Sunday, July 30, 2017 from 2 -4 p.m. at Woody’s Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, Richmond VA to celebrate Judy’s life (casual attire). There will be an opportunity for anyone who wishes to speak at the memorial service. Judy, we love you and you will be deeply missed by all of us.

To my dearest SISTER, Judy, I will never be able to express my gratitude for all the years you supported me, Paul and Patrick I know you sacrificed so much.
Even though I told you personably how grateful I was for your support
There are no words unbeknownst to man or women the greatness I feel.

Now you are gone. I guarantee you will never be forgotten. Not just with me, Paul or ,Patrick, but to anyone who knew you. You where a rock to this family. You gave so much of yourself to make others happy.

I'm so sad that you were taken away before your time.
May the heavens be with you through your journey to the after life and anything that lies ahead.

I will miss you dearly. I say again to my sister and friend and to the person that was there as a second mom to Paul and Patrick. We will miss you so much but will always be in our hearts and never forgotten. you can bet on that.

I love Judy, now and as long as I'm alive. From my heart with love forever,

Love Cheryl

Sending my sincere sympathy to all of Judy's family. I hope your loving memories of her will assuage your grief in time. I had the privilege of working with Judy at US Army Recuiting and being her friend. She epitomized the saying "family first" and strongly believed in providing service to her country. Hard working and absolutely trustworthy, she was a pleasure to know and work with. A good woman in all ways.
