Born on November 23, 1935, in Easton, Pennsylvania, Diane was the daughter of Joseph and Sallie Potomis. She grew up with her sisters, Marilyn, Shirley, and Sallie Jo, and treasured the close bond they shared throughout their lives. Their childhood was filled with laughter, adventure, and memories that Diane cherished for many years.
Diane attended Wilson Borough High School, where she distinguished herself as both a leader and an outstanding student. She served as head drum majorette for the marching band and editor of the school yearbook. Her leadership abilities earned her selection to attend Girls State, and she was subsequently chosen to represent Pennsylvania at Girls Nation in Washington, D.C. In recognition of her many accomplishments and contributions, her classmates voted her “Best All Around.”
While in high school, Diane met the love of her life, Robert “Bob” Chenvert. The couple married in 1955 while Bob was on leave from the United States Marine Corps. They began their married life together at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina, where their first child, Robert Scott Chenvert, was born. After Bob completed his military service, the family moved to West Chester, Pennsylvania, while he attended West Chester University. They later settled in Wilmington, Delaware, where their daughter, Dana Lynne, was born.
Diane spent most of her life in Wilmington, where family was always the center of her world. She had a remarkable gift for connecting with people and never met a stranger. Her warmth, kindness, and genuine interest in others made everyone feel welcome and valued.
She loved animals, cherished time at the beach, and especially enjoyed trips to New York City with her daughter, Dana. She was a devoted fan of Broadway musicals, with The Phantom of the Opera holding a special place in her heart. She also loved the music of Johnny Mathis, whose songs provided the soundtrack to many happy moments throughout her life. She even sang one of his songs on karaoke while in rehab.
In her later years, Diane moved to Virginia to be closer to her daughter, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family. She delighted in watching her family grow and was blessed to welcome two great-grandsons into her life. She also adored her beloved pets, JoJo and Echo, who were treasured members of her family.
Diane was preceded in death by her parents, Joseph and Sallie Potomis; her sisters, Marilyn, Shirley, and Sallie Jo; and her beloved husband, Bob.
She is survived by her daughter, Dana Henderson and husband Jim; her son, Robert “Rob” Chenvert; her grandsons, Alex Leggett (Aleah), Andrew Leggett (Samantha), and Bryan Chenvert; and her great-grandsons, Colin Leggett and Luke Leggett.
Diane’s greatest legacy is the love she shared so freely with her family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to know her. She will be dearly missed and lovingly remembered always.
There will be a service to honor her memory at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 13th at Woody Funeral Home - Huguenot Chapel.
