IN THE CARE OF
Woody Funeral Home Huguenot Chapel
Laura A. Trimble died peacefully on July 24, 2021, in Richmond, VA. She leaves behind an enduring legacy of expecting the highest quality of performance as a professional and an enduring love for family and friends.
Laura was born in Washington DC, and was raised with her brother, Michael K. Trimble, by her mother, Miriam K. Trimble and father, Guy H. Trimble, in Ethiopia and later in Falls Church, Virginia. She held degrees from Randolph-Macon College and from Virginia Commonwealth University. Laura was a proud civil servant her entire adult life, serving the Commonwealth of Virginia, Dept. of Planning and Budget and later as a coordinator of capital outlay policy (1995-2004).
In 2004, Laura joined the Federal Government as a U.S. Treasury Advisor in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia and Serbia, assisting the Ministries of Finance (2004-2007). She travelled internationally on behalf of the U.S. Government for most of her career.
Upon returning from Bosnia, Laura worked for several years in management positions for the federal government and the Millennium Challenge Corporation. Following this, she was appointed by the U.S. Treasury as Associate Director of the Office of Technical Assistance. She ended her career as the Director of Financial Sustainability AIDS coordinator at the State Department. She was recently awarded a career achievement award by the U.S. Treasury for “steadfast commitment to the highest values in public service,” the James H. Fall OTA award.
For the family, Laura had a commanding presence all her life. As a toddler in Ethiopia, she always gave directions. With her flaming red hair and light complexion, she stood out as a person in charge. This command presence defined her, beginning as a child and throughout her entire working life.
Laura is survived by her brother, Michael; niece, Emily Lacey; sister-in-law, Lisa Schiller; and aunt, Bonnie Kaufman.
