WRIGHT, Laura DeShields, of Powhatan, died November 20, 2010. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Dawn DeShields. Survivors include her daughter, Denise DeShields Lester, M.D. and her husband, Robert; two grandsons, Richard and Robert Lester; and other extended family members.
Mrs. Wright was a member of Powhatan Community Church and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. She was the founder of Living Waters Ministries and the Children's Cultural Arts Foundation in Atlantic City, N.J. She was an educator with the Atlantic City Public Schools and retired after 35 years of service.
Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 4 to 6 p.m. Friday. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday at Powhatan Community Church, 4480 Anderson Highway, with interment to follow at Dale Memorial Park.
