Marie Battaglino Beitz

BEITZ, Marie Battaglino, 71, of Richmond, went home after a valiant battle on March 25, 2013. She was born on January 6, 1942 in Brooklyn, New York to the late Samuel and Joan Battaglino. Survivors include her husband of 49 years, William “Bill” Beitz; three children, Laura Beitz Turk and her husband Bobby, William “Billy” Beitz and his wife Lisa, and Kristie Beitz; five grandchildren, Zach, Holt and Anna Marie Turk and Sammy and Jacob Beitz; her aunt, Rose Mirabile; and numerous cousins and friends, especially Muffie Schick, who donated her kidney to Marie in 2005. Marie graduated from St. Johns University in Jamaica Queens, New York and pursued a career as an elementary school teacher in the New York City Public Schools. For over 40 years, she served the Richmond community as a real estate agent and broker working for C. Porter Vaughan (now Long & Foster Realty). She was also a faithful member of Church of the Epiphany. Special thanks to family and friends who have supported and cared for her over the past eight years. We are thankful to Dr. Ann King, Dr. Brian Bradshaw, and the other healthcare providers who have cared for her over the years. Marie was a dedicated wife, mother, and Mama. She was a role model of hard work and perseverance. Most of all she had an unwavering love and commitment for her family. She was a remarkable woman who impacted the lives of so many with her giving heart and unselfish nature. Marie never met a stranger and was a giver to all. Her remains rest at the Huguenot Chapel of Woody Funeral Home, 1020 Huguenot Road, where the family will receive friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday. A memorial service will be celebrated 11 a.m. Thursday at Church of the Epiphany, 11000 Smoketree Drive. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to either, Hume Lee Transplant Center Foundation, c/o Donna George RN, Administrator, 1200 E. Broad Street, West Hospital, 4th Floor Room 104, Richmond, Va. 23298 or Church of the Epiphany Columbarium Fund. In the spirit of giving please consider being an organ donor.
