Born on March 21, 1930, in Hanover, she was the daughter of Reuben and Elsie Adele Chewning and the youngest of their seven children. Jean grew up in a home filled with faith, family, and hard work—values she carried with her throughout her life.
Jean was known for her loving, kind, and generous spirit. A devoted Christian, she lived her faith quietly but deeply, offering compassion, encouragement, and steady warmth to everyone she met. Her gentle presence made people feel welcomed and cared for, and her life was a reflection of the grace she believed in.
She was gifted with her hands and poured love into everything she created. As a talented seamstress, knitter, and baker, Jean crafted countless garments, blankets, and homemade treats that became treasured parts of family traditions. Her creativity and skill were matched only by her joy in giving to others.
Jean is survived by her two daughters, four grandchildren, and five great grandchildren, who will forever remember her devotion, her love, and the quiet strength that anchored their family. Her legacy lives on in the generations she nurtured and the many lives she touched.
A Celebration of Life will be held on April 19 at 2:00 p.m. at Bon Air Christian Church. Friends and family are invited to gather, share memories, and honor a life lived with love and purpose. To help with planning, please email [email protected] if you are able to attend. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Richmond Animal League, reflecting Jean’s lifelong affection for animals and her generous heart.
