

Mark was a devoted father, a skilled tradesman, and a man who found his greatest peace in the outdoors. Whether he was casting a fishing line, hunting, or enjoying the freedom of the open road on his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle, he embraced life with strength, determination, and a deep appreciation for nature.
Throughout his 30+ years career, Mark proudly worked as a lineman and later as a general foreman for several companies, including Florida Power & Light (FPL). He was a proud member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW), earning the respect of his coworkers through his dedication, leadership, and unwavering work ethic/talent.
Above all else, Mark was a loving and committed father whose greatest pride was his family. He is preceded in death by his parents, Patricia M. Chaney and Ronald W. Chaney.
He is survived by his brother, Robert Chaney (Linda); his sister, Dawn McCall; his children, Michael Hackney, William Hackney (Amber), Sean Chaney, Ciara Newton (Paul), and Shannon Chaney; and his cherished grandchildren, Connor, Dalton, Mason, and Elijah.
Mark also shared a lifelong bond with the mother of his children and the love of his life, Karen Chaney. The love they shared and the family they built together remained an enduring part of his life’s story.
Mark will be remembered for his hardworking spirit, quick sense of humor, unwavering loyalty, and the love he gave so freely to those closest to him. His strength, wisdom, and the countless memories he created will continue to live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Mark’s life at a Celebration of Life on Sunday, July 26, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Powhatan Moose Lodge, 4140 Old Buckingham Road, Powhatan, VA 23139.
Mark’s legacy will live on through the family he loved, the friends he cherished, and the countless lives he touched. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
