Mark Anthony Thompson, 64, died on March 23, 2018 in Richmond VA after a life long battle with kidney disease.
Born September 15, 1953 in Richmond VA to Jerome and Sarah Thompson, Mark was born with an intellectual disability and spent his life dispelling all stereotypes, teaching all who knew him to view life from a different perspective.
Mark was preceded in death by his mother, Sarah Pugh Collins, father Jerome “Jerry” Thompson, and brother Troy Thompson.
Survivors include brother Gary Thompson and wife Pauline of Gladstone, OR. Brother Scott Thompson and wife, Emily of Bethlehem, PA. Aunt Eloise Edwards of Columbus, OH. Uncle Maurice Thompson of Gladstone, OR. And loving stepmother, Patricia Thompson of Camas, WA.
Mark was loved and adored by his adopted “Richmond family” which included the families of Ty and Marie Harper, Fred and Mara Arrieta, Theodore and Ashlee King, Todd Biondolillo and Terri Harper, Jennie Ward, Robert and Sharon Robb, as well as their parents and countless aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
The Harper family would like to personally thank Josie Russell, case manager with CCSB, for her many years of guidance, support and compassion. The staff and management of J&D Residential where Mark was able to find a true home and lasting friendships. We would also like to thank Good Neighbor Homes for the care and support they provided Mark for the 3 most difficult months of his life. Also, Dr. Russell Ellenburg and staff of Mid Atlantic Nephrology Associates, and Dr. James Bampton and staff of Physicians of Family Medicine for not only providing medical care, but providing compassionate care for so many years to Mark.
Lastly, we cannot express how grateful we are for the loving support of Grace Hospice, without whom the last 2 weeks of Mark’s life may not have been as peaceful.
Mark adored firemen and police officers. He aspired to be a public servant, and was a zealous supporter of both the Chesterfield Fire and Police Departments. So, in lieu of flowers please consider honoring Mr. Thompson by sending a donation in his name to:
