Marzie was born on October 23, 1946, to Larry and Nancy Longo in Ashland, PA. After Marzie graduated from Marywood Highschool in Scranton, she went on to study nutrition at Penn State University. Upon graduating with a degree in Nutritional Sciences, she began her first job as a nutritionist at Ft. Myers in Arlington, VA. Marzie completed over 30 years of career work in this field, retiring as the Director of Nutrition for New York State Department of Corrections at Rykers Island.
While Marzie enjoyed working, her passion was in the kitchen preparing wonderful meals for friends and the family she so dearly loved. She learned this skill early in life growing up in her parent’s restaurant, Longo’s, located on Pottsville/St. Clair Hwy. Over her lifetime, Marzie mastered her culinary skills and used them to show her love and appreciation for the many people she cared for.
Marzie was a devoted daughter, sister, and Aunt. She is survived and missed by her sisters, Ann (Peter) Mazakas and Tina Longo; and her brother, John (Patty) Longo. Forever cherished and remembered by her nephews Peter (Edith) Mazakas and Louis (Natalie) Mazakas, and her beloved niece, Jessica Longo.
Her memory will live on with her great nieces and nephews: Kelsie (Charlie) Aylor, Alexandria Mazakas, Peter Mazakas, Carter Mazakas and Harrison Mazakas and numerous cousins and extended family who will remember her for her warmth and charm.
Special Thanks to the staff of the Reminiscence unit of Sunrise at Bon Air in Richmond, VA for the special care they provided over the last seven months.
